Two words to our many Class volunteers: Thank you!.....Well done!.....Great job! Our Slate of New Class Officers for 2019 - 2024
We appreciate their willingness to serve and lead our Class into our 50th Reunion!
Co-Presidents: Chris Santos (MA), Donna Davenport Smythe (GA)
Chris is an active admissions volunteer for Wellesley and the Wellesley College Alumnae of Boston - scheduling alumnae at area college fairs and doing both on-and off-campus interviews; she also was Admissions Committee Chair for the Washington Wellesley Club. Chris served as Nominations Chair for our 35th Reunion, Co-Chair of our 20th Reunion, and Child Care Chair for our 15th and 25th Reunions. She also served as a member of Wellesley's Campus Committee and the Stevens Traveling Fellowship Committee. Chris says she looks forward to working in sync with Donna Smythe to inspire the Class to make the 50th its best reunion ever!
Donna currently serves as Treasurer of the Atlanta Wellesley Club, frequently hosting their annual Winter Tea. She previously has served Wellesley in many roles: President, St. Paul/Minneapolis Wellesley Club; Board member, Chicago Wellesley Club; Vice-President, Class of 1974; and Special Gifts Chair for our 25th Reunion. At the national level, Donna served on the WCAA Board of Directors as the Chair of Clubs and on the National Development Fund Council during the campaign for $150 Million, which recorded the highest level of individual giving by any college/university in history. Donna looks forward to partnering with Chris Santos to lead the Class of '74 to its 50th Reunion!
VP : Rhonda Wrenn (Ohio)
Treasurer: Doreen Franke (CA) has served on the Reunion Outreach Team, and she says she "is now looking forward to some long overdue service to Wellesley." She lives in Sacramento, California where she is the Chief Financial Officer for a non-profit community health center. She spends time with her husband, 4 children and stepchildren, and one granddaughter.
Secretary: R. Stephanie Bruno (LA) has served as Reunion Parade Marshal for our Class and will again in June! She also served as Class President, an alumnae board member (for classes and reunions) and led the New Orleans Wellesley Club for a long time because no one else wanted to! Stephanie shares "I live (per omnia saecula saeculorum) in New Orleans where I write house and garden stories for the New Orleans Advocate, give out tardy slips to ornery middle school students at Newman School, and sell real estate every now and then. I can't wait to catch up with all of you at reunion and beyond! "
Wellesley Fund Co-Reps: Barbara Schwartz Garlock (D.C.), Genie Ware (MA)
Barbara served as Class Fund Rep for the past 5 years and is excited to be stepping into this role again – this time sharing the job with classmate and new friend Genie Ware, whom she met in 2016 through Class activities. She says, “I love Wellesley and believe it is super important and timely to support its mission to educate and empower women – but on a personal level, the best part of my Wellesley experience is being an alumna.” Barbara is “retired-ish” from a career in nonprofit management. She and her husband David live in DC and have a home in the Berkshires where they spend the summer.
Genie has served on previous '74 Reunion committees, including in the role of Class Rep. Wellesley is one of the few organizations for which she is unambivalent about fundraising: the world continues to need institutions of high caliber that cherish and empower women. Genie is easing into retirement from her practice as a child and family psychologist by taking summers off and spending them traveling with her husband John and living in their summer home in NH. She is delighted to be co-chairing the Wellesley Fund role with her new friend Barbara Garlock, with whom she shares much in common.
